The EmmaCOPD project in the Gooi- en Vechtstreek region has been nominated by the ICT professional title Computable within the Computable Awards 2021 for the healthcare Project category. A group of 38 Computable experts has assessed a selection of 72 projects in the healthcare project category and invited the top ten for a presentation to the jury. The EmmaCOPD project was subsequently named one of the five best healthcare projects in 2021 by the professional jury. An online voting process will determine which project can ultimately call itself the best healthcare project of 2021 on 2 November.
Since September last year, general practitioners in the Gooi and Vechtstreek region, together with physiotherapy practices and Tergooi hospital, have been using the EmmaCOPD eHealth application to provide remote support for COPD patients and to identify possible lung attacks at an early stage. The EmmaCOPD eHealth application consists of two parts:
- The digital lung attack action plan (digiLAP), which helps patients to quickly recognize a lung attack via the Emma app and take appropriate action immediately.
- The Emma Activity Coach, which makes it possible by means of special software for the smartwatch for physiotherapists to guide patients remotely in strengthening the physical condition.
What is unique about the project in the Gooi en Vechtstreek is that EmmaCOPD has never been used by general practitioners before. Unlike in secondary care, the emphasis during this pilot is mainly on building up sufficient physical condition in a patient in order to be stronger when a lung attack presents itself.
