Medicine Men introduces Emma clinical research platform

Medicine Men introduces EmmaResearch. This so-called clinical research platform supports researchers in trials and pilot studies, where medical data of test subjects is collected remotely, through both sensors, wearables and validated questions and questionnaires.

Broad functionality for researchers

With EmmaResearch researchers can make use of sensor data from fitness trackers, smartwatches, wireless scales, thermometers, spirometers, oxygen saturation meters, ECG en blood pressure monitors. They can ask questions to test subjects on the smartphone, iPhone, smartwatch, tablet, iPad or web browswer. The question formats are flexible, from multiple choice to Likert scale. For trend analysis it is possible to send validated (or specifically picked by the researchers) questionnaires at set times to the phone or tablet of the test subjects. It is even possible to only trigger a question when a certain sensor or measurement value is reached. Test subjects can be reminded through multiple channels, such as SMS, to do a measurement. Researchers can monitor the status of the test subject on online customizable dashboards. On request, research data can be saved anonymously in a secure, isolated environment for online data analysis. The software works in multiple languages, including Dutch, English and German.

Oscar van Dijk, CEO of Medicine Men: “We were asked more and more often by researchers if the Emma platform could also be used within their research. When an intervention is being researched, in which patient sensor data gets collected and patients have to answer questions, it is often considered to develop an app. The increasing demands in the field of CE certification, privacy regulations and the connectivity of devices makes that a costly endeavor. With EmmaResearch, all of that is already taken care of.

Postmarketing surveillance

With the increasing demands in the field of quality assurance of medication, postmarket surveillance is starting to become more and more mandatory. EmmaResearch is simple and efficient for CRO’S (Clinical Research Organisations) and can be deployed in multiple languages.

Trustworthy and secure research

EmmaResearch is being used, among other things, in research in the Amstherdam UMC, LUMC, and the UMC Utrecht. EmmaResearch is CE medical device class 1 certified. Medicine Men has NEN7510 and ISO27001 certificates.

The Emma platform

Emma supports regional health networks around chronically ill patients. Succesful applications on the platform are e.g.: EmmaHBPM for blood pressure measurements, EmmaCOPD for the recognition of exacerbations, Emma Activity Coach for physiotherapists and their clients and Emma Medication for medication adherence. The company has won multiple prizes with her innovative solutions. Medicine Men works together with many hospitals and general practitioner’s offices.
